Developing a Social Sensibility
The technical and instrumental nature of much contemporary social praxis has become a contributing factor to – rather than a resolution of - the deepening social crisis in our world. This programme offers the possibility to understand and work with radically different, more appropriate, more organic approaches to social understanding and practice. To work in ways that are respectful of the complexity and true nature of the challenges we face in the social field, and that allow us to engage fully and deeply in the relations and processes that are at the heart of any social situation. Engaging with the problems we face in the world today requires an exercise of imagination and creativity that is often stifled by the driven simplicities of dominant practice. This programme gives space and support to explore and develop a grounded, aware, engaged and imaginative interpersonal practice. The programme will be highly relevant for anyone working around social issues
- from professionals to social activists; those working on social aspects of ecological and environmental work; those working on social development at local levels, nationally or internationally - who want to work differently and contribute imaginatively and with sensibility to our social future

Governance Report
Governance Practices of National Non-Profit Bodies and National Networking Organisations in South Africa (2009) was commissioned by the Department of Social Development (DSD). The study focuses on current governance practices of national non-profit bodies and national networking organisations (the target organisations). The goals of the study were to assess the extent to which these organisations are modelled distinctively in terms of organisational and governance formation and structure, and to make recommendations to the DSD on appropriate interventions and organisational structural arrangements that would best promote good governance practices in such organisations.

Business case March 2010
The vision to universalise education, training and skills development, build a growing economy, strengthen democracy and entrench a culture of lifelong learning is monumental. It represents a challenge to provide appropriate conditions for genuine development of each and every person, particularly the most marginilised and vulnerable citizens. While the Western Cape is in a comparatively better economic position than other provinces with regard to growth, unemployment and poverty, this coexists with high levels of inequality amongst its citizens.

Poverty and Economics in South Africa
Economic factors are but just one set of the multiple factors that gives expression to poverty. Nevertheless, how an economy functions can either give rise to, or alternatively begin to eradicate, poverty. The focus of this paper is on the relationship between poverty and economics with an emphasis on the distribution of human and material resources – for example, income, land, finances, jobs, education, and housing. An economy does not operate on the basis of a collection of iron laws which cannot be altered and changed. The type of economy a society embraces, and subsequently the level of poverty it is willing to endure, must claim a central place in any discussion of strategies to eliminate poverty in South Africa. While economics is only one facet of the problem of poverty in society, poverty cannot be eradicated without addressing the dynamics of a modern economy
