Some of the objectives of the Coalition are as follows:
To help  create an enabling environment by influencing the legislative framework in which CSOs operate.
To identify development priorities and seek to influence donors, grantmakers, organized business and other stakeholders to support the Coalition’s development.
To promote community participation in the implementation and evaluation of the reconstruction and development of South Africa.
To implement advocacy programmes aimed at lobbying for policies which
advance the interests of marginalized (e.g. the poor, women and rural) in society.

                                   SANGOCO Code of Ethics

                                  Picture
South African society is characterised by inequality. At the birth of our new democracy in 1994, the government committed itself to redressing inequality and improving the lives of all people. This commitment requires a comprehensive economic, social, cultural and political process. We believe that government will not be able to implement effective reconstruction and development without strong, informed and effective Civil Service Organizations (CSO’s). We therefore commit ourselves to strengthening the sector, to improving the quality and impact of our services and delivery, and to contributing to a vibrant and dynamic society.

                                  Picture
The mission of the South African NGO Coalition (SANGOCO) is to promote civil society, by uniting and strengthening the Civil Society Sector, to enable it to influence development policy, and advocate for programmes that meet the needs of the poor in the best possible way, at the least cost. Civil Society Organizations that want to become members of SANGOCO should subscribe to the above mission and the SANGOCO Code of Ethics. The SANGOCO constitution and policy documents will determine the criteria, rights and obligations for members. This policy must be read alongside these documents. SANGOCO shall wherever possible adopt an inclusive approach to membership.
